Architect Daniel Libeskind has secured funding of a great project located in Vilnius: the Downtown Tower, centrally located within Vilnius’ business district, close to the Neris River and old town. Following an agreement with JSC Investmira of Lords LB Asset Management, Swedbank will be responsible for funding the 20,000 sq. m. geometric structure.
The Downtown Tower will become a hub for business and leisure in central Vilnius. Inside of the 6-story podium are plans for restaurants, shops, and other businesses open to the public. Scaling up the 18-story tower will be large office spaces.
Luxury hotel Raddisson Red will also open a new location here, the first of its kind in the Baltic region! Martynas Trimonis, head of real estate clients division at Swedbank Lithuania explains: “This part of the city has been changing beyond recognition. It attracts new businesses, which will work in the newly built business centers, as well as tourists, who will be able to try out a Radisson RED hotel, which boasts a unique concept and is the first Radisson RED in this region.”
The Polish-American architect Liebeskind also created plans for the Modern Art Centre Vilnius (MAC), with its official opening planned for early 2019. The 3,000 sq. m. space will be home to works of Lithuanian art from 1960 onwards. As my colleague Ulrike visited Vilnius this past November, she spoke to Acting head of the Modern Art Centre Vilnius, Milda Ivanauskiene, who stated the location will function as both a Lithuanian cultural hub as well as versatile venue for national and international events. “It is a plus to have a convention centre inside the heart of the city which is boutique, which is something special. The architecture will attract many people!”
