On April 22nd, IMEX Group CEO Carina Bauer shared a new focal point for this year’s show. “Our approach to sustainability is both to lead by example and to shine a spotlight on key industry campaigns, for example, through our sponsorship of Positive Impact’s campaign to tell the story of the power of events during the United Nations International Year of Sustainable Tourism 2017.”
Along with the new EduMonday program, IMEX is starting up a new initiative called Waste Watchers. Partnering with ShoutOutLoud, Waste Watchers will collect materials such as food, flowers, and furniture that are usually discarded after the show and donate them to people in need. Around 2.7 tons of paper will be saved this year by printing badges on paper instead of card and providing a digital Show Catalogue for more information on exhibitors and educational sessions. In addition, hydroelectricity will be used throughout the show.
There will also be a number of educational sessions offered about sustainability: Global Destinations Sustainability Index: Driving Perforance and Competitiveness (Guy Bigwood/MCI). At the IMEX Gala Dinner, the new IMEX-GMIC Green Award will be presented to professionals who are taking steps towards a greener future!
