Auckland is steadily receiving praise and recognition as a strong destination in the MICE industry. At the 2017 World Travel Awards, Auckland was named the top meetings and conference destination in Australasia, an award voted on by top professionals in the international travel industry and high-end consumers. This award has been won exclusively by Melbourne over the last few years.
Anna Hayward, Manager of the Auckland Convention Bureau, is extremely proud to see Auckland receive such a prestigious international recognition. “With a wealth of intellectual capital, centralised event facilities serviced by a professional industry, a reputation for superior hospitality, and strong air links with the rest of the world, Auckland is at the forefront of hosting international events in New Zealand, and it’s fantastic to see this recognised through this award.”
With the 2019 opening of the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC), an even larger amount of international events hosted in New Zealeand is to be expected. Following the recent ICCA rankings release, Mrs. Hayward concludes, “Auckland moved up 14 places in the rankings to 79 from 93 last year, and since 2014 we have seen Auckland shift 32 places overall. This is before the NZICC is even open.”
“Hosting business events not only provides a significant economic contribution to the regional economy but they help to develop thought leadership globally, position Auckland firmly in the minds of key international influencers and create strong relationships between research and industry.”
This was not the only award Auckland has received so far this year, however. Auckland Aiport is Australasia’s Leading Airport 2017 and SKYCITY was named Autralasia’s leading Casion Resort 2017.
