We have reported about the RoadGames App and new ways to look into digital city tours. The RG team has now launched a new project for the European Commission Representation in Latvia together with the embassies of the European Union member states in Riga. Here is the official statement about the new orienteering game “Explore Europe in Riga!”
From November 7 to August 2021 the game is available in Latvian language for the local citizens – to take part in an orienteering game and explore Europe in Riga!

Families and friends are invited, in small, friendly and safe teams of 2 – 5 people, to participate in the orienteering game “Explore Europe in Riga!” – find and explore interesting European places in the capital Riga.
The Game is made with the support of the European Commission Representation in Latvia. The embassies of the European Union member states (Denmark, Estonia, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Finland, Germany, Sweden) and Eastern Partnership countries (Georgia, Ukraine) in Riga, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), the Ministry of Finance and the Saeima participated in the creation of the game and also provided the prizes for the best teams.
“Explore Europe in Riga” is an orienteering game for pedestrians in the urban environment, where in two hours you will have the opportunity to get to interesting places in Riga related to the European Union member states and Eastern Partnership countries. To experience how different and yet unified the history, culture and traditions of the European Union member states are in performing creative tasks. How have Riga buildings been renovated, insulated and made more environmentally friendly with the support of European Union funds? Do the ideas and solutions of green and digital Europe meet in Riga? Find out in the game!
The choice of the date and time of the trip is up to the participants – the game is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – until July 31, 2021.
In order to participate in the game, each team member needs to download the RoadGames app (GooglePlay or AppStore) on a smart device. We ask you to make sure that at least one of the team members has GPS turned on at all times during the game – this is necessary to accurately do the tasks, as well as to determine whether the team has been at the task site. It is advisable to charge smart devices, a portable battery charger may also be useful.
When you start the game, a game map with tasks will open in the RoadGames app. Tasks can be completed 2 hours from the start of the game. Points will be awarded for each correctly completed task. There is no set location for the start and finish for the game, but it is advisable to start it in the area that will be visible in the app – in the center of Riga, on the right bank of the river Daugava.
The team, when choosing tasks, forms its game strategy. Please note that the task is more than can be accomplished during the game, the main goal – to collect as many points as possible. As the game is free of charge, until August 2021, when we will award the three teams with the most points, it is possible to play it more than once.
We recommend that you carefully read the rules of the whole game and each task before you start, as well as follow the traffic rules when moving in the capital.
