1) About me and my goals at IBTM

My name is Eydna Hansdóttir Djurhuus and I am the Event Manager for Hilton Garden Inn Faroe Islands and Hotel Vágar Airport Hotel. I have attended the IBTM 4 times. This is one of the most important conferences to attend for us, and we have already welcomed several new clients to our property from previous meetings in Barcelona.

2) Exciting news from Hilton Garden Inn

There are 2 exiting news for our property – the first is, that we are currently making an extention to the hotel, so we allow conferences and events to have their own entrance. This also expands our meeting space and we will be able to host larger meetings and events.

Second, we can now offer a new hotel at Vágar Airport, opened earlier this year, run by Hilton Garden Inn: the refurbished Hotel Vágar Airport, which offers hotels 25 rooms and 2 meeting rooms. To have a nice hotel at the airport is very practical for those visitors who like to catch the early-morning flight out of Vágar, or arrive with the evening flight to the islands and do not want to drive in darkness to Torshavn the first night..

Sustainability at the core of our hotels: I would like to point out that the Hilton Garden Inn in Torshavn was built and opened in 21 with sustainability at its core – always best to look ahead strategically when building a new hotel as then all the latest innovation and technology can be built in more easily. That is what we did. For example is the hotel’s roof covered in grass from local land, blending the hotel into the scenery. This green roof provides multiple environmental benefits including insulating the building (reducing heating requirements), improving stormwater management, providing erosion protection, and contributing to biodiversity. Local stone was also used for the structure of the hotel.

Water – Wool – Wellness in our hotel: Carbon emissions, water and waste are three elements which were carefully considered during the development of the hotel, mirroring our Travel with Purpose 2030 Goals (Hilton policy). There are numerous examples showcasing this engagement – from the basics of LED and motion-sensor lighting and recycling bins in guestrooms, to employing advanced building management systems that optimize the energy efficiency of the heating and ventilation systems.

Each element of the operations and guest experience has been designed by employing technologies and systems that put sustainability front and center. Our guests will see bulk soap dispensers that reduce plastic waste and motion-sensor taps in their rooms. Guests can also rest easy that the property is running on renewable energy from the local power plant, has underfloor heating to further conserve energy, and that we are constantly monitoring its operations to ensure any issues that might be wasteful are immediately addressed.

As for wellness, we have developed a special program for guests who are willing to try out the Nordic Style of cold water dipping in the ocean. It is fun and very healthy. Here is a link to some more information on this offer:

Wool – stands for local products and local materials which are used in the decor and making of the scandi-style rooms. The hotel is perfectly cozy for winding down and relax from walks in the nature of the Faroe Islands.

See you in Barcelona and looking forward to our meetings!
